A live online workshop, taught from the studio

An introduction to painterly fine art portraiture

Inspiration, styling, colour, lighting, posing and editing — see how it all connects, live, over two parts you can take separately or together.

Have you been curious about fine art portraiture but aren’t quite sure where to start? Maybe you love the painterly look, but when it comes to putting all the pieces together — inspiration, styling, colours, lighting, posing and eventually editing — it suddenly feels like there is rather a lot to figure out.

That’s exactly what this workshop is about. Join me live from my studio for a day dedicated to getting you started in the world of painterly fine art portraits.

You’ll be with me while I work — asking questions along the way, seeing the process as it happens, including the small changes and decisions that can completely alter a portrait.

Part One

Kick off your fine art journey

NOV 12
Thursday 15:00–19:00 Swedish time

I’ll photograph two different models and create different fine art looks, taking you through the thinking behind each image as it forms.

We’ll talk about where the inspiration starts, how I bring together wardrobe, backdrop and colour harmony, how I choose and shape my light, and how posing and small details help build the final image.

Most importantly, I want you to see how all of these elements connect — live, in real time, with room to ask questions as the portrait takes shape.

Using images from our workshop, I’ll introduce you to my fine art editing process and show you how I begin transforming a strong RAW file into a finished painterly portrait.

We’ll work with light, colour, depth, skin and atmosphere — the creative choices that help an image move away from simply being a photograph and towards something more artistic.

This isn’t about handing you a preset or teaching you to copy my finished look. It’s about understanding the possibilities in your own images, and giving you a strong starting point for developing your own fine art work.

Part Two

Your editing artistry starts here

NOV 26
Thursday 18:00–20:30 Swedish time

From camera to canvas

Before the edit, after the edit

Drag the slider on each image to see how a strong RAW file becomes a finished painterly portrait — the kind of transformation you’ll learn in Part Two.

Martina Wärenfeldt

Fine Art portrait photographer & Canon European Ambassador

Martina is an internationally awarded portrait photographer, educator and one of Sweden’s most established Fine Art portrait specialists. With almost three decades as a full-time portrait photographer, she has built a career around photographing people with intention — work that blends classical inspiration with a modern, painterly finish, shaped through lighting, styling, posing, colour harmony and detailed post-production.

She’s also an experienced international judge, speaker and mentor, teaching photographers around the world how to strengthen both their craft and their creative confidence. In this workshop, she shares the full process behind her Fine Art portraits — the decisions made before the shutter is pressed, the details that separate a good portrait from a strong one, and the editing choices that bring the final image together.

Before you book

A few practical details

Do I need experience to join Part One?

No — the workshop is designed so photographers of any level can follow along. If you’re already comfortable with your camera’s basic settings, you’ll get even more out of the day, but it’s not required.

What do I need for Part Two?

A basic working knowledge of Photoshop. We’ll be editing real RAW files together, so it helps to already know your way around layers and the core tools.

What if I can’t attend live?

Both parts are recorded and shared with attendees afterwards, so you won’t miss anything if the exact time doesn’t work for you.

Can I book just one part?

Yes. Part One and Part Two can each be booked on their own, or together as the full Fine Art Kickstart.

What photographers say after the day

“

Martina has such a positive energy and way of making everyone feel included. I left the workshop full of ideas, confidence, and motivation to create.

Markus LindkvistWorkshop, Norway

“

Her knowledge runs incredibly deep, but she teaches in such an easy-going and straightforward way that nothing feels overcomplicated. I came away with a much better understanding of light, colour, posing, and the thinking behind a strong Fine Art portrait.

Peter WilsonWorkshop, Los Angeles

“

Martina’s energy is contagious. She makes you want to go home and create immediately. The workshop was inspiring, practical, and full of those small details that suddenly make everything click.

Anna WinderssonWorkshop, Sweden

“

What I appreciated most was the combination of experience and openness. She is direct, relaxed, funny, and very clear. I left with practical tools I could use straight away, but also with a real push to trust my own creativity more.
